Madhubanti began her training in Hindustani classical music in childhood, taught by her father, Goutam Kumar Sarkar, a Kheyal and Thumri singer and disciple of the great maestro Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh. A graduate in Sangeet Visharadh Upadhi, Madhubanti trained in Kheyal under Sri Santanu Bandyopadhyay, a renowned master of the Bishnupur Gharana, and in semi-classical styles under Srimati Dalia Rahut, a respected representative of the Benares Gharana.
Currently based in the Lyon region of France, she has performed on multiple musical tours across France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and more recently, Morocco. Madhubanti had the honour of performing during a grand cultural evening held in conjunction with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to France, where her performance was highly appreciated by more than 3,000 attendees.
Madhubanti also sang in 2019 at the prestigious Festival Magazine Rythmes du Monde in Rabat, Morocco, as part of a Kathak dance performance by the dancer Sharmila Sharma. The renowned music company from Kolkata, Bihaan Music, released her first album in Kolkata, India, in 2016.
Career opportunities in the field of language training (French and English) brought Madhubanti to France, where she has held several respectable positions. However, music has remained her greatest passion. With experiences as varied as her many talents, Madhubanti strives to promote Indian classical music and culture in Europe—not only as an artist but also as a music educator. Through her music classes, she hopes to foster a melodious exchange between two different cultures. As Artistic Advisor for Tin-Tal, a Franco-Indian cultural association, she works to create intercultural dialogues through the universal language of music.
